Hey runners,
I’m selling off miles for my marathon on October 18th as a part of Team in Training. Follow the above link to see the various rates. All proceeds go to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Or you can follow this link and donate directly, if you’re shy or don’t need spare miles lying around the house. The smallest donation makes a difference.
Thanks!
why cant i get back into it??
since vacation I cannot get back into working out. I tried yesterday with a 3.5 mile run but then ended it with a beer (I had a bad day, ok?)
I will try again tonight.

10 miles! Err.... I mean, 9.75 miles!
Yesterday was my long run and it was supposed to be 10 miles. I am sorry to say I fell ever so slightly short.
It’s cool though.
I made a mistake this week by pushing my 2nd longest run, which was supposed to be 6 miles, from Thursday to Friday. Then I ended up running 7.5 miles instead of 6, which was great except that I only had a day of recovery time and when I set out for 10 miles...
I like how I’ve conditioned myself so well, that my long runs no longer leave me sore the next day. Yesterday I pounded out a solid 14 mile run (in 1 hour, 31 minutes) and then jumped on my bike for 30 miles.
RUNSTRONG and train hard, my fellow pavement slayers.
I’m pretty tubby (160 pounds, f, 24, 5’4”) and ran my first 1/2 marathon today!! 2 hours and 24 minutes.
I was in awe of the atmosphere at the race today, the encouragement I received from complete strangers and sense of accomplishment I got once I crossed that finish line.
I now really understand why all you (crazy?) marathon people run.
It’s simply amazing.
So,...
Look, Ma! No iPod!
This morning I woke up at 5:45 with the intention of running 6 miles. I was up dressed and out the door, getting ready to take off, when I went to turn on my iPod and… nothing. It wouldn’t turn on.
Ah!
So, do I say forget it and go back to bed? Do I Go for a run anyway but resign myself to a shorter distance because I couldn’t possibly run 6 miles with only my thoughts to...
Guess what, y'all!
I just ran 7 miles! I’ve never run that far before!
(I know! Sarahluz just ran her first 20 miler… maybe I’ll get there some day!)
It went well, except some major armpit chaffing set in during the last mile. Uncomfortable!
10 miles is scheduled for next week!
9/21 - first 20 miler edition
I DID IT!! On Saturday, I just never got around to posting on here. I was pretty insanely proud of myself, I’m not gonna lie. 3 hours, 20 minutes. I think I’ve finally decided on my wonderfood for these long runs — Bear Naked Fruit and Nut granola bars. They are the perfect consistency and hearty enough but not overly filling. I ate half of one around 11 miles and was fine the...
Feelin' Good!
My 5 mile run this morning went great! I had so much energy in my last mile that I decided to up the pace and ended up doing that mile almost a minute and a half faster than the previous four.
I have a 7 mile run scheduled for Sunday and that will be the furthest I’ve ever run. I really feel like I’ll be able to do it no problem!
I think the half marathon’s gonna be great.
...
Thanks for the answers, guys!
I think I’m going to train for the 1/2 marathon. I don’t have to register til October 14th, so if things are going really poorly I can always wimp out.
But, I think I can do it!
I’ll keep ya posted.

Do you think it’s possible for me to train for a Half Marathon in just six weeks?
Right now I only really ever run 4-5 miles. Is six weeks just too soon?
I don’t care about my time. I just want to be able to finish it.
What do you think?
Time to get back to it!
I need to stop being such a lazy ass! Yesterday I went for a four mile run to molly’s house ( the long, up hill way). rested for about 20 minutes and then ran home the other four miles. It was down hill but it still counts right?
i think today I may give my body a rest so it doesnt feel shell shocked. My plan is to get into amazing shape for my birthday. Its not until Feb, but I need all...
Today morning, I got the most impressive run of my life, view speaking (not sure it makes sense). I got the chance to see the sunrise on the brooklyn bridge, the sunbeam in the financial district, the reflection of the sun on the water thanks to the Goldman Sachs Tower, the fresh air on the westside,… Then,… I got lost, missing my street to go back to Brooklyn through the Williamburg Bridge (Those...
Equation for successful run
Factors:
A couple disappointing runs
Gym membership purchase
Cross training (60 minutes on elliptical)
Sleep
Hope
Goals (1/2 marathon)
Equation: ((Gym membership purchase + Cross training) x Sleep) x (Hope + Goals) - disappointing runs = Successful seven-mile jaunt.
I mean, 7 miles, 7 miles in 68 minutes! I haven’t run that far in about five years and today’s run felt incredible. Take that...
19 miles
If you start from Manhattan at the base of the GW Bridge, running across the span and then making a left down a hill you’ll find a 20 mile trail of rolling and steep hills. For the past two Saturdays this has been the site of anguish (last Saturday) and triumph (today).
Last week I had some personal problems that were plaguing my spirit. In addition to poor hydration the day prior, I...

Well, I fell off the running wagon AGAIN!
Eh, this is what I do. I moved a couple weeks ago and just stopped running. Why? I don’t know. I couldn’t find my iPod charger. Is that a good enough reason? Maybe, but I didn’t even try to look for it until a few days ago. It’s just that my routine was thrown so working out at all went out the window.
This week I finally got out there again and went for a 2.5 mile run,...

PS: Kara Goucher is LEGIT. She went to my school.
Was this a special X-Men school for elite runners? I knew it, mutants!

"Run with" Kara Goucher
For those New York City, and surrounding area, runners: Kara Goucher will be leading the group run from Niketown tomorrow night. Here’s your chance to “run with” an elite runner! And by “run with” I mean, start out your workout and watch her jet out ahead of you.
Deets are here.

Drinking and running and running and drinking
I have a question about hydration and I’m not talking about sports drinks. I have about, oh, six weeks to my marathon (woah) and I know that I should stop drinking alcohol at a certain point, but I’m in a bit of a grey area of when that “certain point” is.
A month? Three weeks? Two weeks? One week?
10 running songs...
…to get your tempo up
1. Woke Up This Morning (from “The Sopranos”) - Alabama 3 2. Goodbye Stranger - Supertramp 3. A Little Less Conversation - Elvis Presley 4. Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis 5. Don’t Stop Me Now - Queen 6. Festival - Sigur Rós 7. Fix You - Coldplay 8. Get Myself Into It - The Rapture 9. Alpha Male - Röyksopp 10. Bright Side of The Road - Van Morrison
I haven’t updated on here for awhile. I’ve been running my ass off though, don’t worry. I’ve probably run 125 miles since my last post. Today I threw down a very fast 4 miles between classes… 25 minutes and 1 second. 6:15 avg/pace. Mile 1 = 7:01 minutes and mile 4 = 5:17. Each mile was faster than the next. Ouchies.
it burns
havent ran in three weeks and cranked out a 3.5 mile run.
I would like to die now.

9/6 - second time's the charm
So, having bounced back from my epic 18-mile fail from a few weeks ago, I decided to try the distance again today…to MUCH better results. Nailed it! 18 miles in about 2:56. VERY proud of myself right now. The weather was perfect, I tried a new trail, going from Georgetown to Virginia along the Mount Vernon trail, out to Reagan National Airport, and it was a little hillier than I would have...
Oh, hello.
Last night I ran a nice 2.6 mile route with my boyfriend at around 7:30pm. The sun was just going down as we started and the temp was about 65 degrees. Lately I’ve been having some arch pain on my left foot, but since I’ve been icing it and stretching it well before I run, it’s not been so bad.
By the way, I’m Alicia. I’m from MA and training to run a half...
Nike+ Question
From philoconn@gmail.com:
I bought the Nike+ Wristband recently and have yet to have 2 sensors sync with it to where it will actually track my runs/time/calories. Has anyone ever had this problem and/or have any tips?
