To gu, gel, shot or blok?
Here’s a question for the endurance crowd: What form of nutrition do you turn to for your long runs?  PowerBar gel? Clif shots or bloks? Jelly belly sports beans?  Or are you more like Scott Jurek* and prefer a more traditional foodstuff to carry along? What flavor do you find the least barf inducing?  I can’t imagine any of the choices to be palatable after an hour or two of running...

3.25 miles 9:18/mile First run that felt good in awhile. I’m thinking I’m ready for something longer on Wednesday. -duplo PS- My Nike+ alerted me that it’s time for a new sensor today. Can I consider that an accomplishment?

first run with camelbak
6 miles. A little weird. Wasn’t used to the extra weight and it threw me off, and there are a few other kinks to be worked out. I didn’t even really need the hydration because it’s gorgeous out in DC and not especially hot this morning, but tomorrow is the long run of the week, 11 miles, so I’m sure I’ll be glad to have it.

Hiking FAIL
internetrunningclub: I started to hike but after a little under a half a mile I got bored so decided it would be fun to run really fast. Ran 7:04/mile average on hiking trails for 3 miles. Running on steep, dirt trails is super hard but rewarding. So just 3.42 miles, including my hiking portion. Oh yeah, this is on top of my other 4 hours of training today.  Your fails are so clearly...

My run sucked today/ Why I shouldn't be a slacker
3 painful miles I have been a lazy runner for the last month or so. I went from running 2-4 times a week to more like once every 10 days. I’ve been letting a lot of stupid things get in the way. Things like being tired or a little hung over. Not having an updated running playlist. Not being able to find my best sports bra. Dumb stuff.  I need to stop. I need to run at least twice a week...

Ran two miles and biked seven. How is it possible that it takes me 5 months to get in shape and only two weeks for me to lose it all? -malty

10.22 miles all on dirt/hiking trails. I went up 2600ft. I think I’ll start to do a once weekly update instead of after every run. Too many updates from me? - freshprince

(YESTERDAY) I’m trying to do short runs at race pace after every bike I do now. I want to teach my body to think that everything I do is really just one sport. I don’t want my body to think of swimming, biking, and running as three different sports. I knocked out a hard 2.77 miles in 19:36. 7:05/mile pace with 503 feet of climbing. I woke up at 5:45am today and went to an ocean swim...

New running shoes
Hey guys! It’s about time I get a new pair of sneakers.  I’ve had my Nike’s for 3 years now (much of which I didn’t really use them) but lately have been putting in the miles and I think it may be time for a new pair.  Anyone have any recommendations or personal favorites?  I’m also not trying to spend a lot of money (aka less than $90).  Help is appreciated! -Kim...

BRING. THE. PAIN.
Did a solid 9.02 miles on trails only (at Paramount Ranch in Los Angeles), not one foot on pavement, with 2382ft of climbing. This was a VERY painful workout. I really wanted to stop at times but pushed myself when it hurt the most. I’ve been really strong mentally recently. My mindset has been, “this pain is just making me stronger,” and I’ve never trained so well. Since...

did the long run sunday!
9 miles. Except I hate it when I think I have a perfect mileage route all planned out and then find myself blocks from my apartment with like, a full mile left to go…So I’m exhausted and then it’s a so close yet so far situation and I’m scrambling, running random loops around streets trying to come up with the extra distance. Anyway. 3 miles this morning.

not sure what happened today...
But i was on fire!! I started the day with a long swim workout, followed by 45 minutes of lifting, followed by a track workout, followed by another swim just to loosen myself up. Anyways, you guys only care about the track workout. I busted my ass for 3 miles to pound out a 17:30 3 miles. I’ve never ran so fast. If I can do something like that off the bike in a race, I’ll be so...

trying to get back in action
I had a stomach flu this week and nothing says “fuck running” like 6 hours of barfing, so I skipped Marine Corps training for the past four days. Felt like I could handle it today though, so I set out to do a 5 miler, which turned into 4 after I actually went outside and realized it was hotter than Satan’s balls out there. Still trying to do my long run either tomorrow or Sunday...

3.03 miles, all out off the bike; 0:20:02. Did the bike as a time trial… so that was allout. I kept 24mph for 30 minutes which is a PR for me. I love to see my training pay off.

2.9 miles 10:05/mile Slow, short run. But, at least I did it. It had been about 10 days since I last hit the road. Terrible! I hate when I don’t run. My first run back is always hell. My Grandma said she would pay for new running shoes if I picked them out. I need them badly. Grandmas are the best. I’ll run again tomorrow. Yell at me if I don’t, please. -duplo

I'm starting to really enjoy running again
I was seriously hating running after being for some reason recently. I think because I’ve been having really mixed results in my racing recently. Yesterday I nominated the run in my race and got one of the fastest run splits out of everyone. It feels really good to do that well. I love running again. Anyways, my run yesterday was 3.1 miles and I did it in 20:38. I’m bummed that I...

why do you run?
I really don’t want to go on a run but I am going to (sigh). I want to go home and go back to bed. But sleeping wont get my ass looking good for Costa Rica. Neither is all that nutella and beer I had this weekend. I hate running with the power of a thousand suns and the only reason why I even run is because I feel like a conquered something by doing something I hate. Does this even make sense? Why...

10K training mishap
I also posted about this on Nutritionista…Help me, IRC! I’m training for my first race, a 10K (coming up in 2 weeks), and my long run this week was supposed to be 7 miles. Due to mileage miscalculations, I only ended up running 6. Should I run 9 instead of the assigned 8 next weekend to make up for it or would that be counterproductive?

My first race
A 5km run on Wimbledon Common, and I finished in 24:29, which is so much better than I was expecting. I was hoping for anything below 26 minutes, and to do it in less than 25 is fantastic news for me. That’s a 7:50 mile pace overall, and for the first lap I was on a 7:21 pace, which was evidently too quick because I flagged massively on the second lap. I enjoyed the fact that it was two...

bad run with bad TV
Yesterday while working out I was watching “brooke knows best’ on VH1. has anyone told her to stop dressing like a Wisconsin 90’s reject? Anyway, 3 mile run and 6 mile bike, walked home in a storm without a jacket. Fun. -malty

Sorry, IRC. I’ve been training really hard and haven’t been remembering to update. On Wednesday, I did a short but fast run (off a 3 hour bike ride and long swim). I ran 3.51 miles in 22:17. Yesterday, I woke up at 4:45 (too early!) because I was really busy and run 10.27 miles. I’ll probably have another 10+ miles done today… in addition to 4-5 hours on the bike. I better...

04/06/09
With all my shin problems recently, it’s been a while since I’ve managed to do anything further than 2 miles. After signing up for a 5km run this Saturday morning, I figured that I needed to prove to myself that I’m still actually capable of that kind of distance. So I’m very pleased that I did 3.5miles (5.6km) on the treadmill today, and at a good pace too, 29:20 in...

2 miles on the treadmill, and 10.5 miles on the bike; 47 minutes all told, so a solid session. Again, just wasn’t feeling the treadmill today, and my shins are still giving me trouble. Man, I sound like a bloody hypochondriac on here! But it’s true, I’m getting sorer and sorer every time I run, even if just for a mile or two. I definitely need to get some new trainers when I get...

i am an idiot
I showed up for the NYRR Brooklyn half on Sunday all pumped to run…too bad I’m a fucking headcase, and the race was on SATURDAY. I was already at Prospect Park, so I did three laps around and went back to my (now former) apartment. Didn’t have my Garmin, but that was about a 12 mile run, so I don’t feel bad wearing the shirt :) Started marathon training this week, but I...

Hi From a VERY Beginner Runner...
Hi Everyone, I’ve looked over the last few pages of the Internet Running Club and have been quite inspired by your posts.  I recently starting running (June will be my 3rd month) to lose weight and get fit, aka I am not a runner at heart.   I always thought people who enjoyed running and got these so called ‘highs’ off it were crazy, but I’m slowly understanding how one...
